On Sunday September 18, 2011, our church leadership gave every member a gold envelope containing a $50 bill and a challenge…”Put your trust in God and put your seed money to work. In 2 ½ months bring your envelope back with the seed money and all the increase from it.” We were encouraged to be creative, think outside the box, and use the $50 “seed” as start-up funds for our idea. I remember walking to the alter to select my envelope. As soon as I returned to my seat I wrote; 3 John 1:2 on the front of it, truly believing that God would prosper me in all things. But one month into the challenge I felt everything but prosperous. I had nothing…zip, zero, nada, the big goose egg, NO ideas! I began to pray and ask God for help, then suddenly a thought came to my mind to review the notes I took during service. I grabbed my journal, turned to the page dated 9/18, and found one single sentence…God will use your gifts to bring increase. As soon as I read that I said out loud, “But God, all I can do is teach girls!” I honestly felt defeated in that moment, like what I had to offer wasn’t good enough. I ended my prayer by saying, “Lord, if You can use my gifts please do.”

A few days later as I prepared lunch for my kids (doing absolutely nothing spiritual), a picture unfolded before my eyes. I saw a beautiful white room filled with Mothers and daughters. I was teaching the girls in the presence of their Mom, but what I saw next brought me to tears. Each Mother read a personal letter to her daughter, affirming who she is and all she would become. Following the letter every daughter was given a white rose presenting her beauty and purity…it was absolutely amazing! Then it hit me…I have a beautiful 9 year old daughter who was quickly becoming a young woman. She was at an age where she needed extra love, sound advice, and constant affirmation. Throughout the years I’ve had many conversations with women who weren’t quite sure how to approach the inevitable “life-changes” topic with their daughter. Many confided in me that they were not adequately prepared by their Mother, and now felt nervous about talking to their daughter.  

Since 2006, I’ve taught sexual integrity to teen Mom’s and spoken to hundreds of teenagers regarding sexual purity. I’ve seen the need first-hand and understand the importance of reaching our daughters at a young age and preparing them for the race BEFORE it starts.

While standing at my kitchen counter (now 7 years ago), I realized I no longer wanted to multiply a $50 bill, I wanted to multiply the Kingdom of God! The first Beautiful You Event was held in my finished basement and to my surprise over 30 women registered to bring their daughter! That $50 seed was multiplied to over $700, and so it is true…God WILL use your gifts to bring increase!

Ladies, I want our daughters to follow Jesus and not become victim to immorality, trafficking, drugs, eating disorders, depression or suicide. I believe that as we have open & honest conversation about what they will face, we will ultimately prepare them for the greatest call of their lives…WOMANHOOD!
